After much prodding from friends I joined Facebook. I have to admit it is fun and I have re-connected with some friends that I have not heard hide nor hair from in many years. Caught up with some high school friends, college friends, vet school friends, and intern-mates! Took a few quizes, made some lists/notes and found an egg given to me by my friend Karla- thanks by the way Karla! Facebook is a tad addicting right now and I can add another thing to the list of my life distractions (because I needed more).

Another month gone
Wow- another whole month has gone by since I have actually updated. Time flies when your having fun- wait...was I having fun? Anywho... Let's see what has been going on at the Happy Chaos abode this past month?
Charlie
-The end of February/beginning of March found Charlie cramming in many extra choir rehearsals as they neared their large Handel's Messiah concert March 8th. They do a big concert every year with a whole orchestra and everything- quite the production and I'm glad it went well. It is something he enjoys and while I selfishly dislike the Wednesday evening rehearsals- I'm glad he goes.
-He has heard from the ETEP program at USM and he is in! This is a program that gives him tons of in-class experience and allows him to be just a few credits shy of a masters degree in teaching. Presently he has a teaching certificate but no teaching degree (just his BA in History and his MS in Communications) so this will make him more desirable to hire. He is accepting which means another 9 months of him out of work- but then hopefully he will be hired and in a job he will enjoy. Plus the schedule will be great as our children get more into their school years. No more scrabbling for daycare or babysitting during school breaks.
Erica
-I enjoyed a fun and relaxing weekend (Fri-Sun) crop with friends at the beginning of March. Didn't get as many pages as I had hoped, but still accomplished 11 pages and 3 cards. Plus laughed with friends and just de-stressed some.
-The week following that was vacation for me- really a stay-cation as not a lot of money to go anywhere. Spent most of it sorting through the tons of outgrown clothes. I am so thankful to have family and friends hand down some wonderful clothes- it will be a life safer this next year not having to buy a lot of clothing. So I sorted clothes into piles- save for our children, to hand down to others, sell on ebay or consignment, or give to our church or Goodwill. Also re-organized the children's closets to prepare for some warmer weather (it has to come sometime!)
-During vacation I also renewed my drivers license- why do they always come out horrible and you only get to choose from 2 and the first one was taken by accident- she pushed the button while setting up- so I was completely taken by surprise! Oh well not many people see it I guess. We also renewed our passports so we can head to Canada in June (some time without children and I'm going to some continuing education meetings to stay licensed for work).
-We went to a breeder client of mine to play/socialize with the new litter of puppies- see the photos below for a shot of one of them. Adorable Belgian Tervurens.
Hannah
-had her second report card and parent/teacher conference. She is doing exceptionally well. They are so impressed by her reading abilities and her cheery/happy disposition. She gets along well with others and has not had a non-sticker day ever (they get a sticker every day if they have done well that day).
-She turned 6 this past Tuesday (although she'd like you to believe it was 16!). Over the weekend we had her party at the 1 screen movie theater in town. You can bring any movie in to watch- they supply popcorn and drinks and a space for cake and presents afterwards. She partied with 11 of her friends. She received many great presents from friends and family- including a Nintendo DS in ice pink (of course) with many games, the 2 Diamond Castle Barbies and the Diamond Castle movie, about 15 books (Magic Tree House, Rainbow Fairies and Junie B Jones), more stuffed animals (have I told you how many we have and that they seem to breed in our house!)and some fun crafts that we still need to work on (maybe during April break)
Owen
-Is getting ready to graduate from preschool. He too is doing really well at school. Knows all his letters upper and lower and can write almost all as well (the lower cases are a bit tricky). He is really starting to sound out words and knows some sight words.
-He LOVES anything Star Wars related. We watches the Clone Wars Series daily (although we have seen them all), loves his Star Wars Legos including the Lego Wii game, and is in the process of collecting the figures. We just picked up 2 more Star Wars books from the book fair and I am looking to buy another Star Wars T-shirt (we have outgrown one of our two). He also still loves any super hero and Transformer. -He is starting to work on riding a 2 wheeler without training wheels.
Isabel
-She is really growing up! Her talking is getting better, she understands tons and is a real helper around the house. She has a similar obsession with shoes as Hannah does (another Lil' Imelda!) and loves to steal her sister's jewelry and lip gloss. (I think I'm in for another girly girl- where is my tomboy?)
-Soon she will be learning to ride her tricycle- but really enjoys just running and walking. I'm always impressed with how far she can go without getting tired.
-She is starting to enjoy coloring as well- it's just not always on paper!
-Most of the time she is a good eater, but sleeping is not her forte. We did not do a good job on teaching her to fall asleep on her own and are paying for it. She still gets up at least once in the night and we have to go and get her back to sleep. She is down to one early afternoon nap a day that lasts about 1.5 hours.
-She is a total ham! She can always make me laugh with her antics.
Well that is all for now- I'm going to go and work on a Smilebox of photos for the bottom of this post. Hope everyone who reads this (does anybody read this?) is doing well. Until next time......

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow....
Well we are in for more snow! Crazy weather just 2 weeks ago we were having a small thaw- it actually reached in the 40s and about a foot of snow had melted. Then last Wed-Fri we got small snow showers and tonight we are looking at getting 7-11 inches! Oh well what is one to do living in Maine. It's still better than last winter when we accumulated over 100 feet of snow. Before it hits we are heading out to go sledding at a friends house with a super fast sledding track. Should be a blast.
I hope you all had a great Valentine's Day. Hannah and Owen enjoyed their school parties and came home with more candy then they needed so off to work went half of it. By the way who gives Pixie Stixs to 4 and 6 year olds- that is one mean parent- trying to sugar up my kids lol. H and O helped me make cute little cell phone cards with candy buttons for the phone buttons (no sugar in those- ok I'm a hypocrite). They came out really cute if I do say so myself.
Just finishing up school vacation week! We did not go away so planned playdates to keep Hannah busy- 3 of the 5 weekdays were occupied. Thursday had 6 girls from school over- we painted suncatchers, made some jewelry, ate cupcakes and played. Pretty surprised to see some drama between them already at 6 years of age- but overall they got along well. Just a slight glimpse into the teen years- so not ready!
There is a horrible cold going round- a horrible cough that last 2-3 weeks. I had been dodging it at work pretty well, but it eventually caught up to me. Izzy started it- she has been fever free for 3 days- the longest in the past 2 weeks and she slept fairly well last night! Hopefully it is almost over for her. Hannah had 2-3 days of being slightly off and not feeling well and Owen had it for 3-4 days but luckily no croup!!! (at the risk of jinxing myself I think he may have outgrown it). I started last Tuesday with sore throat and cough. Still have the cough and it's a joy to listen to me talk- poor clients who had to try and understand me at work the past few days.
In light of all the sicknesses I realized how sucky our health insurance is. Sorry for this little soapbox moment, but I sure hope this economy turns around soon. It's so frustrating to be working full time (and doing extra shifts) and feel like you can not support your family and keep them healthy. My work changed to a PPO (whatever that means)- so there is no copay, instead you pay a slightly reduced rate for everything and it does go towards your deductible (so supposedly you meet your deductible sooner and then more is covered fully). There is also a Health Savings Account that you deposit into tax free and can use for paying for your visits and pharmacy items. In parts it's an ok plan- however to get a bill saying you owe $100 for the visit you took your sick, febrile daughter in for hits hard when you are living on 1 salary. Guess we will not be going to the doctor for every sniffle and ache we have anymore, which is a bit scary for this over-reactive mother. I see what can happen with some patients that wait it out- now they have a sicker pet and more expenses then if they had just come in when it first started. Oh well cold season should be over soon- right? Plus at least I have some form of insurance- there are many out there (children mostly) who don't have any. Plus for the most part we are healthy. I just feel I'm working hard and getting nowhere. I'm a very educated person-with a doctor's degree, married to a very educated husband with a Bachelors and Masters degree, yet we are struggling- how the #$%&?)@ does that happen?
Sorry for the soapbox. I'll leave you with some photos below.

Thanks for the indirect kick in the butt- Jenn!
Ok I'm way behind on updating this blog. I keep telling myself to update and then get caught up doing something else- typical me. For as anal as I can be- it's amazing how easily distracted I am. Anyways I was being distracted over at my friend Jenn's blog and saw my blog in a list of ones she follows and it guilted me enough to get a new post up. Thanks Jenn!
Not only have I been distracted but there just is not much to tell. January saw a few snowstorms- we still have about 2 feet of snow piled up out there. Unfortunately it is too cold for the children to go out and play in it. Charlie, Hannah and Owen enjoyed Disney on Ice again this year. They had great seats and Charlie figured the camera settings out and got some awesome shots. They also indulged in some cotton candy- sorry Gramps- they will brush well I promise.
Work has been steady- we will have a super busy day and then a slow day. I am actually taking a vacation in March- the first vacation since last June/July (well the first whole week since then). I'm starting it off with a weekend scrap retreat in North Conway NH and ending it the next weekend at my parents house in NH (so Charlie can take some more teaching tests). In between I will attempt to go through the bins of clothes we have that they have outgrown.
Charlie is still doing some part time web editing from home and is on the substitute teachers list. I'm not optimistic for GlaxoSmithKline to hire him back seeing as most pharmaceutical companies have been laying people off- but we will see come late March. He also has an interview next Thursday for the etep program at USM. It is a 9 month program that gives him lots of teaching experience and credits towards his Masters degree in teaching- hopefully making him that much more desirable to hire. It would start in September. He continues to sing in the church choir and attends monthly meetings.
Hannah is doing very well at school. Her reading ability is amazing and the teachers love her. They are still collecting postcards from the US and other countries- so if anyone wants to send a postcard- leave a comment and I will get you our address. She is looking forward to her February vacation - we are setting up some playdates to keep her busy. Hard to believe her 6th birthday is only about a month away! Her favorite songs are All the Single Ladies (Beyonce) and So What (Pink). She continues to sing in the church choir.
Owen is also doing well, although his work can be messy and he is made to do it over. He will attend kindergarten in the fall and a few friends will be attending the same school to help the transition. He is still in awe of Star Wars, Transformers, and Super Heroes (especially Spiderman and Batman). His favorite song is Kung Fu Fighting. He also continues to sing in the church choir and have fun on the TumbleBus at school.
Isabel continues to try everything her sister and brother do and loves to interfere while they are playing (much to their dismay). She is a dancing fool and cracks us up. She loves any song, singing and acting out Row Your Boat and Ring Around the Rosie, as well as rocking on the rocking horse. She also is a huge fan of lift the flap books (although some do not have flaps anymore- hmmm)
We continue to have a blast with friends- whether it's whole families or just couples, Helping out at school functions when we can and keeping the family afloat. Until next time.......

Belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
Ok I'm sooooo behind with this blog!!! Yikes!!!
A stomach bug invaded our house from Dec 19-26th. I luckily evaded it- the rest of the family was not so lucky. Poor Izzy had the first and most severe case of it- ending up in the emergency room after 36 hours of profuse vomiting (initially 6 times in 5 hours). Thankfully she was deemed not dehydrated and was on the mend shortly afterwards. However it also meant we missed out on our church Christmas Pageant- so no Angel Hannah or Sheep Owen this year (although they can sing most of the songs for you anyways). Owen was next to get sick, then Hannah and Charlie waited until Christmas was over.
We still had a very enjoyable Christmas- waking up to open stockings and then heading downstairs to see if Santa left anything else. Boy did he!! Owen was super excited to find Spike (a remote control dinosaur) under the tree. Izzy thought he was pretty cool- until he roared and then she ran! She is finally getting used to him again- although still gives him a wide berth when walking around him. Hannah has been enjoying her foot powered Razor scooter- mainly in the house but does venture out when pavement can be seen. The both scored new Playmobil in addition to their Playmobil Advent Calenders. Lots of new books to add to our collection, some new outfits (including a much loved Star Wars T-shirt), crafts, sleds, and hand knit mittens from Granny (who at 95 years old still makes wonderful, warm mittens). Izzy got help opening presents and still was not sure what to make of this day, by next year she will be right there with the older two. Later in the day we went to Mima and Pop's house for brunch and opened even more presents and caught up with Uncle Robert.
Hannah enjoyed a few playdates over her Holiday vacation and we spent a very quiet New Years Eve at home. New Years day was spent cheering on Penn State at Mima and Pops along with the visiting Uncle Don, Heidi and Taylor. Also more eating!
The first weekend in January Grandy and Grampy visited with yet more presents and lots of hugs. They babysat so Charlie and I could go out to eat and drink with our favorite bunch of friends. We also happened to get persuaded to participate in the Snowman Adventure. A crazy winter race where one partner sleds down a hill and then runs 2 miles, the next leg the other partner sleds down a hill and then bikes 4 miles, the final leg both partners sled down the hill together to the finish line! Wish us luck http://www.snowmanadventure.com
I think that is everything in a nutshell since the last post. enjoy the photos below.

Just a quick one
I have been horrible at this blog... started off I would update it weekly, then every other week and now I think I'll aim for monthly. That I should be able to do, right? ( don't answer that). So here is just a quick update before the big Christmas rush starts- only 13 more days.
The tree is finally up and all decorated!!! Boy do we have a lot of ornaments- we didn't even put up about half, mainly because we have a lot of glass, fragile ornaments and a pair of very tiny hands that like to take them off (Izzy!).
So what's been up with us?
Thanksgiving was spent at my parents house. Two of my sisters were there (missed ya' Haskin Family!). Got to see baby Harrison- boy has he gotten big- so stinkin' cute though! Alexa is wonderful too and H, O and I loved playing with her. Of course I ate way too much- my mom and sisters are awesome cooks and there is always lots of yummy treats at my moms.
Charlie- we know he passed 2 out of the 4 Praxis I sections- still awaiting to hear about the other parts. He is on the sub list and just waiting while he does a few hours a week web editing.
Children- are staying relatively healthy- few sniffles here and there. Hannah is an angel (again) in the church Christmas pageant and Owen will be a lamb. Slightly longer practices are keeping us busy on Thursdays. Owen has gymnastics still on Wednesdays. Today we went to see a really cool puppet show in Portland. It was all black light and they performed 3 of Erica Carle's stories (Little Cloud, Mixed up Chameleon and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. They loved it!.
We are gearing up for some classroom Christmas parties and a work one for me. So will share more later! Hope this finds you all well and having a great Holiday Season
